Faith that Heals
having risen up, go forth

Dear Friends,

This weekend's Gospel passage recounts Jesus' healing ten lepers.

As the scene closes, Jesus interacts with the only man to return. He says to him, Stand up and go. Another rendition of this same line, giving more of the original flavor, has Jesus say, Having risen up, go forth.

The one-time leper, entrusting himself to Jesus, is cured by God's new-creative power. His healing participates in (wow!) and points forward to Jesus' victory over sin and death, the forces that have long disfigured humanity.

Entrusting ourselves to Jesus, signing our lives over to God and his purposes, we access this new-creative power and triumph over the disfiguring forces of sin and death. Having risen up in the merciful love of God made flesh for us in Christ Jesus, we will go forth to raise up his fallen world.
